Despite reports, PRIDE veteran Fabricio Werdum will still appear on the upcoming Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg card. Werdum, who was originally scheduled to face Alistair Overeem, will now meet UFC veteran Mike Kyle.
Werdum, a member of Chute Boxe, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 11-4-1. Werdum has spent the past year under the UFC banner going 2-2. During that time, Werdum secured victories over Brandon Vera and Gabriel Gonzaga while dropping bouts to Junior Dos Santos and Andrei Arlovski.
Kyle, a native of Boise, Idaho, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 12-6-1. Kyle spent nearly two years on the sidelines after being suspended for kicking Brian Olsen numerous times while he was on the canvas at WEC 20.
Since getting his license reinstated, Kyle has gone 3-1 securing victories over Rudy Martin, Mychal Clark, and Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante. His sole loss came by submission to Wayne Cole at Strikeforce: Shamrock vs. Le.
Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg is scheduled for August 15 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. The card will feature a title bout between Gina Carano and Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. Also on the card will be a lightweight title fight between Josh Thomson and Gilbert Melendez.
