World Extreme Cagefighting officially announced their self-proclaimed “most important featherweight bout of all-time” earlier today as WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber will clash in a highly-anticipated fight against former UFC lightweight champion Jens Pulver on June 1st in Sacramento, California.
In addition to Faber-Pulver, newly crowned WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres will make his first title defense against undefeated top contender Manny Tapia in the co-main event. Former NCAA Division I wrestling champion Mark Munoz will also make his WEC debut at the event.
Faber remains undefeated inside the confines of the WEC, successfully defending his featherweight belt four consecutive times so far, including a submission win over top-ranked Jeff Curran in December.
However Pulver may provide Faber his toughest test to date, at least in terms of style. The Miletich Fighting Systems product joined the ranks of the WEC coming over from the Ultim ate Fighting Championship this past fall. Pulver made a splash quickly, needing just 35 seconds to submit Cub Swanson at WEC 31.
Despite rumors that the event would be the first WEC show to be broadcast on pay-per-view since Zuffa purchased the organization, it will indeed be shown on Versus.

I couldn’t agree more Matt. I can see how some would argue that Curran would/did provide a tougher test for Faber, but in my opinion, Curran is a pretty one-dimensional fighter. Pulver doesn’t match well at all with Faber stylistically.
Jens has the ability to knock Faber out, prevent himself from getting take down, and has a freakish ability to escape submissions. I’m not saying that Pulver will win the fight, but the matchup is certainly more interesting than what Curran provided.

say what you want, Urijah Faber is an awesome fighter, and he’s what Jens Pulver will never be, Sexy!!!
Urijah is the total package!
of course I want Urijah to win the fight, but win or lose he will always be number 1 to me!! = )

If Faber is so strong and un-beatable, why hasn’t DW moved him into the ufc? He must be able to make one of the weight classes they have and fight at 155 or something…

I like Lil’ Evil. I know that Faber is a stone cold killer, but I definitely think that Lil’ Evil will give him the toughest match of his career so far. I wouldn’t even mind seeing Pulver win the championship. There is something ot be said for loud mouthed champions.
