The UFC is reportedly planning another “military-themed event” that would likely become UFC Fight Night 16 and would take place on December 10 on a U.S. military base according to MMA Junkie.
Their report cites source close to the event as stating that organizers are currently planning an event to be held at an undisclosed military base and be televised on Spike TV. The fight card would likely feature a handful of fighters with service-oriented backgrounds. Spike TV officials have reportedly refused to confirm or deny the rumor.
The event would serve as a fundraiser for the Fisher House charity, which currently provides free or low cost lodging and monetary support to veterans and families of soldiers receiving treatment at military medical centers.
UFC Fight Night 7 in December 2006 was the last time that the organization held a charity event as a military base. The event took place at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar and all proceeds went to the Marine Corps Community Services Quality of Life Programs for the Marines and Families. Diego Sanchez knocked out Joe Riggs in the main event. Former marines Shonie Carter and Luigi Fioravanti were among the other fighters featured on the card.
