For putting together an event on such short notice, the card really is pretty decent. I agree, Jesse and C.B. are both such good wrestlers that the fight probably won’t hit the ground too often. I think C.B. has the better striking so he’ll probably squeeze out a decision there.

The only fight I can possibly see as being boring would be Andy-Vera. Andy is a phenomenal wrestler and Vera’s weight cut went very, very badly. He looked terrible at yesterday’s weigh-ins. I’m guessing that he’ll be physically drained and will struggle to stop Andy’s shot.

I dont understand why they wait till the last second to cut a bunch of weight!! Doing it over time is just easier anyway. Then you dont have to stay in there for hrs in a day.. cool mad

Well they do cut a good amount of the weight over time. Take Rich Franklin for example. It’s a rare case but he’s a middleweight that walks around close to 220-225 lbs when he’s not fighting. In order to make the 185 lb limit, he gradually loses the weight in the weeks leading up to his fight until the day before the event, where he’ll usually cut around 7-10 lbs before the official weigh-ins.

Cutting a good amount of weight the day before and draining his body of a large amount of water allows Franklin to then put weight back on himself by drinking water and eating after the weigh-ins. I’m guessing that he probably gets himself back to around 200 lbs by the time the fight happens, giving him somewhat of a size advantage over most of his opponents. Cutting down gradually to 185 lbs to the point where he doesn’t have to cut weight at all for the fight would leave him unable to gain any weight back for the fight. He’d pretty much have to stuff his face and that’s not a very good idea before a fight.

yeah i see what you mean i guess. its mostly water that leaves the body anyway and it would be like putting it back in rapidly, within 12 hrs. That might not be the best of ex. but i think im on the right track. i didnt realize franklin weighed so much. but he does look like a big dude when hes in the oct.
