The Ultimate Fighting Championship yesterday confirmed multiple previously rumored bouts that are scheduled to take place at the organization’s separate April events later this year.
Added to the UFC’s return to Canada on April 18 for UFC 97 were a total of four bouts. Former WEC Brian Stann will make his UFC debut against “Ultimate Fighter” alumnus Krzysztof Soszynski on the event’s televised main card.
Stann was slated to take on Steve Cantwell in the third career bout between the two this past December, but was forced out of the bout with a foot injury. Soszynski comes into the fight with one UFC win already under his belt in the form of a second-round submission of Shane Primm.
Among the preliminary bouts for UFC 97 that were announced Tuesday include the return of one-time UFC middleweight title challenger David Loiseau as he goes up against Team Quest product Ed Herman. Other bouts also made official were a middleweight bout between Jason MacDonald and Nate Quarry as well as a lightweight contest between Mark Bocek and David Bielkheden.
Infamous “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Junie Browning will return to action at UFC Fight Night 18 on April 1 when he takes on American Top Team’s Cole Miller. Browning picked up his third professional victory in his as many fights when he submitted David Kaplan at The Ultimate Fighter 8 Finale in June. Miller was last seen defeating Jorge Gurgel at UFC 86.
One-time WEC light heavyweight title holder Tim McKenzie will also make his transition to the UFC official when he challenges Aaron Simpson at the show.
