Mixed emotions

In the second round Lesnar landed a punch that sent Couture to the mat.  Lesnar then jumped on Couture, landing a big hammer-fist, and then continued to punch and punch until the fight was stopped.  Four fights into his MMA career, and Brock Lesnar is the UFC heavyweight champion.  It was good to finally see a heavyweight championship fight, but with Lesnar becoming champ so fast it’ll be interesting to see how the former WWE star is received as UFC champ by MMA fans, and general sports fans alike.

Well, I didn’t get to watch this event. First off, I’m pumped Lesnar won, and it’s cool he won it how he did.
I gotta ask though, not trying to take away from him, how did Couture do? Was he showing age? Was this really a great fight and Couture tried his best? I’d like to know if Lesnar REALLY beat Couture, understand what I mean?
I’ll watch it soon enough but I have to know.

I wouldn’t say he looked old, but his gameplan (or follow-through on it) didn’t seem right.  In the end, he just took a big punch and couldn’t recover.

man it was the splitting image if the matt serra v GSP 1 fight all over again, couture got hit in the back of the head.. i give it to lesnar though. Hes really improved. but to me couture was gonna take it in the long run.. Great job to both..

I really don’t think I’d go that far, considering it’s no fluke Lesnar has dropped all 3 of his UFC opponents with a punch, but he was definitely looking gassed against the fence in round 2, though Lesnar tends to look like that a lot - tired or not. Blood in his eye might have caused a problem later on, but all things considered I honestly give Lesnar the nod for striking appeared to do far more damage than Couture’s. I won’t argue with anyone who disagrees cause it’s speculative.
Anyways, there’s really no telling what would have happened in later rounds. Lesnar appeared to hold back on his shots somewhat, I think he realized Couture would try to tire him out if he did that too much. It was still anyone’s fight until that punch downed Couture, I’d say. I’d love to see a rematch, if only to see if Lesnar could do it again.

Lesnar got the clean win.  He hit him just behind the ear, which is legal.  Lesnar looked gassed in the second round to me.  I am surprised Randy did not go for picking him off like Urijah Faber did Jens Pulver.

I can only imagine if Lesnar got somebody like Bernard Hopkins to teach him how to punch.  Then he would be really unstoppable.

Congrats to Brock.  I really didn’t think he could do that.  I almost hope Randy walks away now instead of trying to climb back to the top again.

I was surprised by how easily Florian won, and Hazelett’s armbar was one of the more cringe-worthy moments I’ve seen in a while.  Overall the card exceeded my expectations.

Did anyone else notice how confused and disoriented Randy looked before the fight? He was not in the right frame of mind to fight. I had a feeling things turned out the way they did for him.

On the other hand, Lesner is now the man to beat. Frank Mir had a good game plan fighting him, but would that same plan work today? Time will tell and if Brock learns to put power into those punches instead of just body weight, well good luck to anyone out there.

He did? To me it looked like he just leaned against the fence on him and got taken down by Brock. In the clinch, when he wasn’t leaning, he was getting kneed off the ground.
