Its too bad we don’t have “play-by-play” details as in past events.  Are there technical problems?  Is there another site that gives the play-by-play as well as results for the last two main UFC 79 fights?

It’d be literally impossible to live blog two events at the same time, thus why I decided to go with posting the live results for both the IFL and UFC tonight instead this time around.. Live blogs aren’t going anywhere.

Whoo-hoo!  I like/respect both GSP and Hughes, but its good to see GSP come back strong!  Hopefully he’ll kick the shit out of “the Mouth” Serra in April up in Canada!

glad to see GSP one, never really liked hughes too much although he was very humble in defeat. i did not see the Silva and Liddell fight since i was watching the patriots (16-0 baby!). But i will most likely order the show tmw since i only caught the last half hour on my comp. thanks for the results guys.

Some thoughts…

I don’t care about Clementi or Melvin, but that was great—especially Clementi taunting Melvin after the submission win and then waving “bye bye” to him.  Melvin just refuses or simply can’t expand his game.

Lyoto looked very good.  Yeah, he’s not exciting, but he’s a very skilled tactician and he exposed Sokoudjo for what he is—talented, but young and green.

The heavyweights?  next…

Liddell and Silva both looked great.  Silva’s game plan sucked, but I’m not convinced anything else would have been better.  Chuck picked him apart and hurt him on several occasions.  Amazing heart and chin from Silva.  I think Silva may be able to drop to middleweight and be a load there.

GSP was simply awsome - he’s just better than Hughes, period.  He’s the best welterweight, he just has to finish proving it in the Octagon.  I think he’ll destroy Serra (who I like in and out of the Octagon), and will reign for a long time.  I can’t wait to see him against Fitch, Parysian, etc.

Overall, a great card.
