World Victory Road yesterday announced three new bouts for the organization’s upcoming “Sengoku Tenth Battle” event, which is scheduled to take place on September 23 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
In the most notable matchup, former EliteXC heavyweight champion Antonio Silva will meet “Big” Jim York. Silva, a member of Florida-based American Top Team, is riding a five-fight winning streak. His most recent victory came at Sengoku’s “No Ran 2009” event in January, where he earned a first-round TKO of Yoshihiro Nakao.
York is coming off of a reported unsuccessful casting bid for the tenth season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. He has split his two Sengoku bouts to date. York fell to Nakao in his promotional debut in May of last year but bounced back with a KO win over seasoned veteran James Thompson in March.
The two other fights made offcial yesterday include Sengoku newcomers Hiroshi Izumi challenging Antz Nansen in the pro debut for both fighters as well as skilled grappler Makoto Takimoto vs. Jae Sun Lee.
“Tenth Battle” also features a trio of bouts sporting notable veterans. Former BodogFight welterweight title holder Nick Thompson fights hot prospect Dan Hornbuckle, longtime veteran Joe Doerksen faces Takenori Sato and one-time IFL standout Ryan Schultz will meet Kazunori Yokota in the night’s main event.
The current card for the event is as follows:
