Well, it's been a hell of a day to say the least. Let's get to it.
Jason "Mayhem" Miller was arrested today in an Orange County, California church after police found the building broken into, covered in fire extinguisher spray, various materials broken and scattered all over and "Mayhem" sitting naked on a couch. The arrest comes just a couple of days after he and UFC president Dana White got into a spat on Twitter, which ended up with Miller telling White to kill himself at one point.
I've already seen some comments from people saying that "Mayhem" is punch drunk or on drugs. It's sad. I really don't hope that is the case. And for some reason, part of me really wants to give him the benefit of the doubt here. We all know he's had a history of problems. Terrible childhood on top of being a generally wild dude for years. He's spoken openly about suffering from depression and stuff like that. Had the whole incident with his sister last year, plus more in the past.
I heard that he was in a bad place even before the Twitter back-and-forth with Dana White this weekend and now this. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with his poor showing in his return to the UFC, plus getting cut over what Dana says was a backstage ordeal caused by him. Who knows.
Either way, I hope he gets some help. It's sad to see him like this.
Other news and notes
The Charleston, South Carolina coroner today said that an autopsy performed on Tyrone Mims, the 30-year-old fighter that passed away following a second-round TKO loss at Conflict MMA's "Fight Night at the Point VI" this past weekend, showed “no obvious, glaring cause of death”. Additional testing will follow include results of a toxicology report, which has become key in the investigation as Mims reportedly took the painkiller Percocet prior to his fight per the Mount Pleasant Police Department. More to come. [The Post and Courier]
In an interview with ESPN's Todd Grisham at Saturday night's UFC 150 event in Denver, former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans revealed that he at the very least is considering a move down to the middleweight division after one last fight at 205 lbs. "I want to fight the best competitors out there," Evans said during the interview. "It's really hard to go down a weight class after you've lost a fight. It kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth. So I may have to get one back at 205 before going down to any weight class." [MMA Live]
Cris Cyborg made a rare media appearance on this afternoon's edition of "The MMA Hour" and told Ariel Helwani that she wants a shot at Ronda Rousey when she returns from her one-year suspension at the end of this year, but can only do so at 145 lbs or a catchweight of 140 lbs and not at Rousey's current weight of 135. Cyborg also said that Rousey had dropped down to bantamweight from featherweight in order to avoid fighting her in the past. [MMA Fighting]
