The Palace Fighting Championship held the official weigh-ins yesterday for it’s sixth event, “No Retreat, No Surrender”, which will take place this evening at the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino in Lemoore, California.
The weigh-ins went relatively smooth with the exception of a few problems.
All of the fighters made weight except for one, Scott Brommage, who is scheduled to face Fresno native Casey Olson in a lightweight bout. No word on why Brommage did not weigh in or if Olson will be receiving a new opponent.
The event features a total of three title fights: PFC featherweight champion Shawn Bias will go up against Art Arciniega; Shawn Klarcyk will attempt to defend his PFC bantamweight belt against Rolando Velasco; and recently released from the UFC, Diego Saraiva will challenge Poppies Martinez for his PFC lightweight crown.
However the show is highlighted by a light heavyweight clash between budding prospects Glover Teixeira and Jorge Oliveira. Each fighter has defeated a couple of notable opponents in their careers: Oliveira has won a unanimous decision over Shonie Carter and submitted Mike Van Arsdale while Teixeira has decisioned current IFL middleweight champ Matt Horwich and stopped upstart Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.
“Glover Teixeira versus Jorge Oliveira is a UFC caliber fight,” PFC president Christian Printup said in a recent press release. “Some people don’t understand how big of a fight this is. This is the type of fight that could happen on the biggest stage in the sport.”
Teixeira is prepared for a tough fight against such a well-rounded opponents but still plans to finish the fight with his fists.
“I know he’s done kick boxing and I’m looking for some good stand up and he’s a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt,” Teixeira said. “I don’t care about that, though, I’m a black belt, too. Belts don’t mean anything. He’s a decent all-around fighter. I’m going to do what I do best and hit him hard in the face. The fight will start standing and I want to try and stand and get the knockout in the first or second round.”
