After losing his second straight decision to Forrest Griffin, Stephan Bonnar revealed to fans that he suffered a few injuries in training which weighed heavily upon him entering the fight with Griffin. During training Bonnar received a cut which required stitches so that made him overly cautious in the first round.
“Yeah, looking back, I was overly cautious in first round because of the stitches” Bonnar said Monday afternoon.
On top of the cut Bonnar made it clear that he also broke his hand in several places early in the fight with Griffin which will force him to sit out for the better part of a year.
“I’m not feeling too good, I shattered my right hand in five places and am going to need surgery” Bonnar revealed.
“Oh yeah I knew right when I hit him it that it broke. After watching the fight I’m pretty sure it was in the first round” he said.
