Sperry Out, Monson In

PRIDE veteran and Brazilian Top Team member Mario “Zen Machine” Sperry has been forced to pull out of his upcoming fight against Wes Sims on the Gracie Fighting Championships card due to an injury.

Sim’s new opponent will be UFC veteran Jeff Monson. Monson is coming off of a unanimous decision loss to UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.

This certainly would put some doubt into the claim that Fedot is supposed to fight Monson in February for the BODOGfight promotion.

Yeah, Fedor seemed like he needed some time off anyways. During his post-fight interview he said he had an injured toe which he wanted to fix up.

Monson is an animal, and I was incredibly disappointed with the match-up between him and Sylvia. Even on paper, it just doesn’t work. I think the world of Fedor, but the thought of these two fighting is purely amazing.

I totally agree. I can say that going into the Sylvia-Monson fight I expected Monson to get decapitated but as the fight went on I gained loads of respect for him.

Monson showed he is a true warrior giving up a foot in height? and still he was able to put up an excellent fight.
