Chael Sonnen may return to action against middleweight prospect Nissen Osterneck at a yet to be announced World Extreme Cagefighting event in March.
MMA Junkie has confirmed through Osterneck that WEC officials have proposed the bout, offering it to Osterneck within a package that includes a multi-fight deal with the promotion. Osterneck has not yet made a decision in terms of whether or not he will accept the deal.
Sonnen is coming off a surprising performance against WEC middleweight champion Paul Filho in a fight that Sonnen dominated until midway through the second round when he was caught in an armbar that forced a controversial stoppage.
Osterneck is undefeated thus far in his professional career. His last fight was a submission win over Freddie Espiricueta at HDNet Fights: Reckless Abandon last month.
