Sokoudjou Returning at UFC 79?

HAC News recently sat down for an interview with PRIDE veteran Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou to ask him some general questions about his life and career so far. At the end of the interview, Sokoudjou states that he will be returning to action on December 29th:

I’ll be back not in the ring but in the cage Dec 29th in Vegas!

So is Sokoudjou admitting that he has signed with the UFC and will make his debut at UFC 79?

With the event only a little more than a month away, the UFC will be announcing the majority of the card pretty soon. I’d assume we will be finding out pretty soon.

The UFC is the only MMA promotion that has an event scheduled in Vegas on December 29th as the IFL Grand Prix finals are taking place in Connecticut. IFO-Steele Cage has an event the day before so hopefully Sokoudjou didn’t get his dates mixed up.

Update 7:15 PM: Dave Meltzer has the latest:

Regarding rumors of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou fighting in UFC, there is no contract signed, but his deal with Hero’s did fall apart and UFC is interested in him and talks have begun. There are talks of a potential fight with Lyoto Machida on 12/29, but it’s nothing more than talk at ths point.

Brazilian website WorldFight is reporting that Lyoto Machida has been lined up as Sokoudjou’s opponent in UFC 79.  Its all still speculation at this point.

One of the best fighters of the category Light Heavyweight in the present time, the Brazilian Lyoto Machida will be the opponent of Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in the UFC. Hot sources of the World Fight confirm that the fight will be announces in the next days. The Brazilians are choked with Sokoudjou, in the first semester of the year the African KO Rogério Minotouro and Ricardo Arona.

I could even see him playing games and meaning he’ll be in the cage, but as a cornerman for a fellow Team Quest teammate and not as a fighter.

Comments from the Team Quest camp, courtesy of MMAMania...

He has made a decision, however, to fight for the UFC. Other offers from EliteXC and K-1 were “flaky.” In addition, the Team Quest management team feels that his best long-term interests will be served fighting in the United States.

Regarding a possible fight with Machida, once again from the Team Quest source...

Not the case, according to Team Quest officials in Murrieta, Calif. However, the bout is “in the works.”

No bout agreements have been signed despite indications that both sides are very close to hammering out a deal. “These things fall through all the time,” he said.
