Arizona Combat Sports product Aaron Simpson will replace an injured Tim McKenzie against WEC newcomer David Avellan at WEC 36 on September 10 in Hollywood, Florida according to MMA Weekly.
McKenzie reportedly withdrew from the bout earlier this week after suffering an undisclosed injury. Simpson, who has won his first three professional bouts and remains undefeated, will take the fight against Avellan on short notice.
Simpson last scored a third-round TKO of Travis Degraw at a Full Moon Fighting event in May. Prior to that, he defeated Scott Dingman on the undercard of BodogFight’s “Thompson vs. Troyer” show in Las Vegas back in February.
Avellan, is also a relative newcomer to the sport and enters the WEC after spending a one-fight stint in BodogFight as well, where he defeated Antony Rea via TKO in February of last year. His first professional win was a submission of Andre Daniels at Absolute Fighting Championships 19.
