Silva’s Opponent to Be Revealed at UFC 77

According to Wanderlei Silva’s official website, Silva’s opponent for his first fight in the UFC since 2000 will be revealed at UFC 77 this weekend:

Wanderlei Silva is once again the special guest to the next UFC in USA. UFC 77 will take place on October 20, when the name of his opponent will be released. The date has been confirmed.

In contact with Wanderlei, he explains that the name is already defined and that the disclosure will only be possible after the event. Wanderlei has been training intensively and has little spare time due the physical and tactic trainings pace imposed to him by his coaches, but he makes a point of attending UFC.

All I have to say is that it better be Chuck Liddell or else I’m stabbing myself in the eye.

Its gonna be Liddell.  But there is an outside shot that it could be Rampage.  Selling that fight would be easy, similar to the Rampage-Liddell 2 matchup.  Here’s the guy in Wanderlei who has absolutely destroyed the current champ 2x in the past.  I’ll be honest, even coming off 2 straight losses, Wanderlei would have a huge mental edge over Rampage.

yeah, i think rampage v silva shouldn’t happen… but would it make more sense for the ufc to have silva beat rampage and have chuch get his gead out the keg and vicadin bottles?...  then they could have liddell fight silva for the title.. more attractive then siva v liddell for nothing?  just my paranoid mind worknig out reasons for fights smile

but i’m with you, if it’s not silva v chuck… i’ll be poking somebodys eye out, prob not mine though lol.

I know they want Henderson down at 185, but it doesn’t look like he is budging.  He wants another title shot against Rampage.  He’ll be due to fight in December.  Maybe a rubber-band match between Hendo and Wandy?  It is definitely an intriguing fight for the fans, both fighters, and the UFC.  If Dan wins, then he is right where he wants to be, in line for a title shot (or somewhere near it).  I don’t necessarily think this is going to be the matchup, but I don’t think it’s too much of a longshot either.

Of course there are the usual suspects: Liddell, Forrest, Jardine, Alexander.

I can’t imagine it being anyone else.  The only other qualified fighters would be Rua (aint gonna happen) and Rampage, and they aren’t giving a title shot to someone that is on a 2 fight losing streak and has a UFC record of 1-2, so count Rampage out.

I’m not going to report it in a post because I don’t want the UFC to be upset with us but it’s 100% confirmed. Wanderlei Silva vs Chuck Liddell at UFC 79.
