Royce Gracie Fails Drug Test

The California State Athletic Commission announced today that MMA legend Royce Gracie tested positive for traces of Nandrolone, an anabolic agent, following his decision victory over Kazushi Sakuraba.

Mixed martial arts icon Royce Gracie, best known as the slender gi-wearing Brazilian who twisted oversized competitors into knots during the early days of the Ultimate Fighting Championship, tested positive for traces of Nandrolone, a commonly used anabolic steroid, following his decision win over Kazushi Sakuraba, June 2 in Los Angeles, the California State Athletic Commission revealed Thursday.

The CSAC has suspended Gracie from June 2, 2007 through May 30, 2008 and issued him a fine of $2,500. Gracie has until July 13th to appeal the suspension.

Old guy. Skinny. BIg payday. Needs the money. Too tired to train much at 40. Steroids.

These guys all missed the big paydays… trying to make up for lost time. Sad.

I think NSGC is screwy when it comes to fines…
$2,500 of $300k? Bonnar was hit for what? 5k of 30k?

@Craig O:

Sakuraba passed the drug test with flying colors, whereas both A & B samples from Royce tested positive for nandrolone.  I wonder if they are going to rescind the result.

Mark - The CSAC currently doesn’t have any rules that will allow it to the reverse the decision. However Armando Garcia has already stated that he will bring the issue up at the next general meeting for the Commission.

if royce did fail for the juice the penalty shouldnt be as bad as wut there giving him nandralone aka deca is a light steroid mostly used for joint and tendon pain not for enhancement it dosent add much strength or mass at all so get off his ass u would need it 2 if u had been training ure hole life

i think it is good that they r suspending him, gracie is one of my favorite fighters, and i was pissed when he lost to hughes, but if u use performance enhancers u should b punished, as a person who tore his acl, mcl, and pcl all in my right knee, i cant get away with that, so why should he, besides they want the whole steroid story, like baseball has, just suspend him and get it over with
