The semifinal round of Strikeforce's heavyweight grand prix tournament will reportedly take place at a yet-to-be-named location on September 10.
A pair of matchups pitting Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem against Antonio "Bigfoot" Silva and Josh Barnett against Sergei Kharitonov are what remain of the eight-man field.
According to MMAJunkie.com, four other bouts are also rumored for the card, including a Strikeforce middleweight title defense between champion Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza and Luke Rockhold as well as the promotional debut of Maximo Blanco, who will face Josh Thomson.
Former 205 lb. title holder Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal will also apparently return to action in a previously scheduled tilt against Roger Gracie and Gegard Mousasi will take on Mike Kyle in another matchup that has been cancelled in the past.
All four remaining grand prix participants advanced to the second round in notable fashion. Overeem won a one-sided unanimous decision over Fabricio Werdum, Silva became only the second man to defeat longtime heavyweight king Fedor Emelianenko, Barnett dominated and submitted Brett Rogers and Kharitonov scored a highlight-reel knockout of Andrei Arlovski.
MMA on Tap has learned that the September 10 event may take place at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri, a destination that Strikeforce has frequented in the past and home of the one of the state athletic commissions that has publicy stated they will license Barnett.
Scott Coker has said that he expects the tournament to wrap up early next year, with the finals likely taking place in February 2012.
