Newly crowned WEC light heavyweight champion Brian Stann will make his first title defense in a rematch with rising contender Steve Cantwell at a yet-to-be-announced event on August 3rd.

Stann revealed details about the matchup during today’s edition of “The Howard Stern Show” on Sirius Satellite Radio.

After winning four consecutive fights inside the confines of the WEC, Stann, a former U.S. Marine, scored a first-round knockout of then-champion Doug Marshall in March to earn the light heavyweight belt.

Cantwell is currently on a two-fight winning streak. He most recently submitted a returning Tim McKenzie, who also earns a win over Marshall in his career, with a rear naked choke in the first round.

Stann and Cantwell originally fought in March of 2006 in the WEC’s second show under Zuffa’s ownership. Stann stopped Cantwell with strikes just 41 seconds into the first round.
