A welterweight bout between two fighters in dire need of a victory, Matt Serra-trained Pete Sell and Team Quest product Josh Burkman, will reportedly take place when the Ultimate Fighting Championship travels to the suburbs of Chicago for UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote on October 25th.
Serra confirmed that Sell would be taking on Burkman during a recent interview with TriStateFighter.com. Sell, who fights out of Long Island, has not fought since being knocked out by Nate Quarry at UFC Fight Night 11 in September of last year. It was Sell’s third straight UFC loss.
Burkman has now dropped three out of his last four bouts. Following a disappointing performance against Mike Swick at UFC Fight Night 12, in which he lost a majority decision, Burkman was submitted by Dustin Hazelett in the second round of their bout at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale. Either fighter could easily find themselves fighting in smaller shows if they lose in this one.

I like Sell too in this fight. If he can pick up some solid takedown defense during his training leading up to the fight, he’ll have a great chance to win. He’s better standing and has better submissions.

I’ve met both of them. Both are really cool dudes. Both need the win. Hmmm. Can’t say I pick one over the other. Nice match up.

This is do or die for both of these guys, Sell needs to fight a smart fight, he hits harder then Burkman and has good ground game, the Quarry fight he was winning all 3 rounds until he got caught, I’ll be cheering for Sell
