Johnny Rees has reportedly been tapped to replace an injured Luke Cummo against Steve Bruno at UFC Fight Night 16, which will take place at a yet-to-be-announced location in North Carolina on December 10, according to Five Ounces of Pain.
The nature and extent of Cummo’s injury is reportedly unknown. The Rees-Bruno bout is expected to take place on the event’s non-televised undercard. Although bout agreements have yet to be signed, MMA on Tap has learned from a source close to the fight that paperwork has been sent out to both fighters.
Bruno was signed by the UFC over the summer but fell in his first UFC fight at UFC 87 in August, losing an unanimous decision to Team Quest member Chris Wilson. The loss snapped a four-fight winning streak for Bruno.
Rees, a Legends of Fighting product, was also defeated in his UFC debut by Nate Loughran on July 19, succumbing to a triangle choke in the first round. He replaces Cummo, a veteran of the second season of “The Ultimate Fighter” who was lost his last two bouts.
