Jiu-Jitsu standout Demian Maia will attempt to stay undefeated in the UFC when he takes on Team Quest veteran Ed “Short Fuse” Herman in a middleweight bout at UFC 83 on March 8th according to a report from Gracie Magazine.
The current middleweight ADCC champion confirmed the bout with the magazine earlier this week. Although the article states that the fight will take place in March, Fightlinker is reporting that the show that was to be UFC 83 in England will now be shifted to a unknown date in April.
In any event, Maia claims that he will begin to train for the fight after analyzing video tape of his opponent.
“I got back to Sao Paulo today,” said Maia in a recent interview with the magazine. “I was vacationing in California with my wife, where I also shot some Jiu-Jitsu DVD’s. I’ll be back at the UFC on March 8th to fight Ed Herman, who I don’t know, but my manager brought me a tape with some of his fights to analyze, but I haven’t had time to watch yet.”
Maia was victorious in his UFC debut, submitting Ryan Jensen with a rear naked choke in just under three minutes at UFC 77: Hostile Territory this past October. Herman is coming off of a surprising knockout of Joe Doerksen at UFC 78: Validation in November.
