A light heavyweight bout between former standout collegiate wrestlers Matt Hamill and Mark Munoz has reportedly been signed for UFC 96, which takes place on March 7 in Columbus, Ohio.
According to MMA Junkie, the fight is set to take place at the event and bout agreements have been signed. UFC 96 still remains without an official main event even though the fight card is nearly complete. Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell remains the top candidate to headline the show.
Hamill, who has spent his entire professional career with the Ultimate Fighting Championship, has racked up a 5-2 record with the promotion thus far. The former cast member of the third season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show recently bounced back from a loss to one-time training partner Rich Franklin and defeated IFL veteran Reese Andy via second-round TKO on the undercard of December’s UFC 92.
Munoz comes over to the UFC from the WEC’s now-defunct light heavyweight division, where he won consecutive fights against Chuck Grigsby and Ricardo Barros. The former NCAA Division I wrestling national champion currently trains in Northern California alongside the likes of Urijah Faber, James Irvin, and Scott Smith.
