City Boxing product Shannon Gugerty will reportedly replace former “Ultimate Fighter” cast member Melvin Guillard against veteran Spencer Fisher at UFC 90 on October 25 according to a report from Sherdog.com.
Fisher and Guillard had verbally agreed to meet at the event early last month, but Guillard has now been pulled off of the card for unknown reasons. According to Fisher, UFC officials went through 3-4 possible opponents before settling on Gugerty.
Fisher bounced back from a disappointing decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 78 last year to win a hard-fought unanimous decision over fellow midwestern product Jeremy Stephens at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June. The win was Fisher’s sixth career victory inside the confines of the UFC.
Gugerty was victorious in his UFC debut at UFC Fight Night 15 on July 19, where he submitted fellow newcomer Dale Hartt with a rear naked choke in the first round. Gugerty, who has fought primarily in San Diego’s Total Combat organization, is 1-1 in career bouts against WEC featherweight Cub Swanson.
