Lightweight contenders Tyson Griffin and Marcus Aurelio will clash when the Ultimate Fighting Championship travels back to Las Vegas for UFC 86: Jackson vs. Griffin on July 5th.
The news comes from MMA Weekly, which reports that sources close to the fight have confirmed that bout agreements have been sent to both fighters and are expected to be signed later today.
Griffin recently won a unanimous decision over jiu-jitsu artist Gleison Tibau at UFC 81: Breaking Point in February. The Xtreme Couture member has won his last three fights since dropping a decision to Frankie Edgar last year.
Although Aurelio dropped a razor-close split decision to Clay Guida in his UFC debut, the PRIDE veteran has bounced back to win his last two fights, stopping Luke Caudillo with strikes and submitting newcomer Ryan Roberts in decisive fashion.
UFC 86 will be headlined by Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s first light heavyweight title defense in nearly a year as he will take on Forrest Griffin, who is currently serving as one of the coaches alongside Jackson on the current seventh season of “The Ultimate Fighter.”
