Former Oklahoma state wrestling champion Matt Grice will reportedly be returning to the UFC after a lengthy layoff to finish up his studies at a local police academy to face “Ultimate Fighter 6” alumnus George Sotiropoulos at UFC Fight Night 17 on February 7.
Bout agreements have been signed by both fighters according to MMA Weekly, which cites sources close to the fight. The event will take place at the USF Sun Dome on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa Bay, and will air live on Spike TV.
Grice suffered a disappointing submission loss to Terry Etim in his UFC debut at UFC 70 in April 2007, but bounced back to win an impressive unanimous decision over longtime veteran Jason Black at UFC 77 last October. The Norman native had won his first eight professional bouts prior to his entrance into the UFC.
Sotiropoulos, who competed on the sixth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show under the tutelage of Matt Serra, has been victorious in each of his two UFC bouts so far. The native Australian quickly submitted fellow cast member Billy Miles at The Ultimate Fighter 6 Finale last December and then followed up with a second-round TKO of part-time stuntman Roman Mitichyan at UFC Fight Night 13.
