A lightweight bout between divisional contenders Spencer Fisher and Melvin Guillard is reportedly scheduled to take place at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s inaugural event in the city of Chicago - UFC 90: Silva vs. Cote, which will emanate from the Allstate Arena on October 25th.
Fisher is said to have confirmed the bout with MMAWeekly.com at this past weekend’s International Mixed Martial Arts Convention in California. Although the fight is yet to be officially signed, bout agreements have apparently been sent out and are expected to be signed and returned later this week.
Fisher bounced back from a disappointing decision loss to Frankie Edgar at UFC 78 last year to win a hard-fought unanimous decision over fellow midwestern product Jeremy Stephens at The Ultimate Fighter 7 Finale in June. The win was Fisher’s sixth career victory inside the confines of the UFC.
Guillard was victorious in his return to the UFC after taking a brief hiatus to sharpen his skills in smaller shows, needed only 36 seconds to stop German prospect Dennis Siver at UFC 86 last month. It was Guillard’s second straight win and also snapped a two-fight UFC losing steak he was suffering from.
