Less than a week after fleeing from a verbal three-fight agreement with Dana White and the UFC in order to sign with Japan-based DREAM, Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic has reportedly agreed to face fellow former K-1 kickboxer Siala “Mighty Mo” Siliga on July 20 at DREAM.10.
The news comes from Josh Gross of Sports Illustrated, citing sources close to the event. After reports of his new deal with DREAM surfaced, Cro Cop quickly denied them through Croatian news outlets, yet all signs still point to him making a return to the Japanese MMA scene this summer.
The former PRIDE Fighting Championships standout competed just one week ago at UFC 99, defeating Cage Rage product Mustapha al Turk via first-round TKO. The win didn’t come without controversy however, as Cro Cop caught al Turk with an inadvertent finger in the eye that the referee missed before finishing him off with strikes.
Siliga last fought at K-1 Dynamite!! 2008, where he succumbed to a first-round triangle choke at the hands of Semmy Schilt. Siliga’s other three professional bouts have all been victories - his most high-profile win being a TKO of journeyman Ruben Villareal over two years ago.
DREAM.10 will feature the conclusion of the promotion’s first-ever welterweight grand prix through a four-man, one-night tournament. Additional super-fights that have been signed include Shinya Aoki vs. Vitor Ribeiro and Melvin Manhoef vs. Paulo Filho.
