Multiple-time Olympic wrestler Daniel Cormier will reportedly face fellow MMA newcomer Gary Frazier on the main card of the latest “Strikeforce Challengers” event, which is scheduled for the SpiritBank Events Center in Bixby, Oklahoma on September 25.
The news comes from MMA FanHouse. Strikeforce is expected to make an official announcement concerning the matchup shortly. A middleweight bout pitting Tim Kennedy against Zak Cummings will headline the Showtime-televised card.
Cormier (0-0), who has recently chosen to settle down with the San Jose-based American Kickboxing Academy, is easily one of the most decorated amateur wrestlers to enter the sport. After winning three high school state titles in Louisana, Cormier became a two-time junior college national champion before transferring Oklahoma State University. Cormier has also participated in the last two Summer Olympic games and has won the U.S. Nationals on five occasions.
Frazier (0-0), a training partner of UFC veteran Matt Grice, was victorious in one amateur MMA bout to date. The Oklahoma native earned a first-round TKO of Jessie Sinks in June.
