A welterweight clash between former DEEP middleweight champion Ryo Chonan and American Top Team’s Roan Carneiro seems to be set to take place at UFC 85 in London.
The news comes from Sherdog, which reports that sources to both fighters confirmed that bout agreements have been signed.
After spending the majority of his career with DEEP and PRIDE, Chonan signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship last fall, only to end up dropping a unanimous decision to Karo Parisyan in his promotional debut at UFC 78: Validation in November.
Carneiro was originally scheduled to face former “Ultimate Fighter” winner Diego Sanchez at UFC 82: Pride of a Champion earlier this month only to be replaced at the last minute for unknown reasons. He last stopped Tony DeSouza with strikes at UFC 79 in December.
The two have actually fought before in the past. They met as middleweights in February 2005. Chonan was victorious due to a cut Carneiro suffered in the third round of the fight.
