Longtime IFL welterweight Brad Blackburn will reportedly make his debut with the Ultimate Fighting Championship along with another newcomer, Iowa Challenge veteran James Giboo at the organization’s upcoming “UFC Fight Night 14” event on July 19th in Las Vegas.
The news comes from our friends at MMA Junkie, who were able to confirm that the two have agreed to fight through sources close to both of them.
Blackburn picked up his first win of the year in April, knocking out Delson Heleno at an IFL event in New Jersey. During his stint with the IFL, Blackburn racked up impressive victories over UFC veterans Jay Hieron and Chris Wilson.
Meanwhile Giboo is currently riding a six-fight winning streak, his last victory coming back in March when he submitted Zeke Schilling by way of strikes at an Iowa Challenge event. Giboo’s most high-profile opponent to date has been veteran Kyle Jensen, whom Giboo was defeated by last year, suffering only his second career loss.
The night’s main event will feature reigning UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva moving up to light heavyweight for the first time in his career to battle fellow heavy-hitter James Irvin in a sure-fire slugfest on the feet. Also making his debut at 205 lbs will be former heavyweight contender Brandon Vera, who will try to snap a two-fight losing streak against IFL veteran Reese Andy.
