Renato “Babalu” Sobral Signs With Strikeforce

MMA Junkie is reporting that UFC veteran Renato “Babalu” Sobral (28-7) has agreed to terms with Strikeforce.

Babalu recently became a free agent after the UFC opted to release him from his contract following his actions at UFC 74: Respect. During his fight at UFC 74, Sobral latched on a fight-ending anaconda choke and refused to let go after his opponent David Heath tapped ultimately choking him unconscious. After the fight he stated that he needed to teach Heath some “respect”. Due to his actions, The Nevada State Athletic Commission decided to withhold Babalu’s $25,000 win bonus and the UFC terminated his contract.

No date has been announced for Babalu’s Strikeforce debut.
