Renato “Babalu” Sobral Released From UFC

Today UFC president Dana White announced that Renato “Babalu” Sobral has been released from his UFC contract due to his behavior during his fight with David Heath.

During his fight at UFC 74: Respect, Sobral choked out David Heath and when referee Steve Mazzagatti attempted to stop the fight Sobral refused to left go of the choke saying afterwards, “I just thought that I needed to teach him respect after he showed me so much disrespect.” The Nevada State Athletic Commission withheld half of Sobral’s pay pending a review of his actions during the fight with Heath.

After the fight Dana White went on the record saying…

“I am not happy about it. If you have an arm or leg of somebody in a submission where somebody seriously injures somebody, you’ll never be back in UFC again.”

Babalu and his management will be speaking in front of the NSAC Friday.

What was Babalu thinking? I guess he just didnt know when to stop, but very stupid move… He had to know he was going to have to pay the consequences.

“I guess he just didnt know when to stop”

Hes been in the sport for years.  hes a professional.  to say he just didnt know when to stop is irresponsible.  maybe he should have known to stop when heath was tapping his arm, or when the ref was telling him to stop.  im a sobral fan but taking the gamble to seriously injure someone after the fight is over is a disgrace.  he went from a top fighter to a thug in a matter of seconds.  its upsetting.  i dont know what it showed on PPV but i was at the fight and the crowd cheered him in and booed him out.  he knew what he was doing and now hes going to regret it for a loooong time.

Joe Rogan mentioned that he obviously ignored the tap and the ref stoppage and put him to sleep on the PPV.  It was also nice to hear the Fans boo after they saw it on the replay, and mostly boos when they raised his hand.
