Great fights tonight.
Marshall with the submission win—who woulda thunk it?
Sonnen gives the win to Filho twice: begging the ref for the stoppage in the 1st instead of actually finishing a hurt Filho and then employing a head-scratching game plan by taking Filho down and exposing himself to the eventual armbar in the 2nd. The ref may have stopped it early, but Sonnen has no one to blame but himself.
Wow! Pulver with the guillotine 35 seconds in! I have to admit that was very satisfying. I’ve grown to like Pulver during TUF and after the BJ fight. So seeing him guillotine a punk who ran his mouth before the fight and who’s best weapon is a guillotine—priceless.
Faber just amazes me. The kid has faced some game opponents, being put in a few difficult situations. But he just gets out of it and then displays such amazing speed, tenacity, strength, and skill. He’s a pitbull. He took a very experienced fighter and essentially broke him. Jeff wanted out of that fight towards the end. He was cut badly and was just being mauled after having Faber’s back for most of the 1st and not being able to capitalize on it. A really big and impressive win for Faber, who’s been knocked for not fighting guys with great pedigree.
Up next, Pulver v. Faber. Man, that’s going to be fun! I favor Faber, but little evil looks like he has the fire back, isn’t reallying on just his left hand anymore, and has really expanded his skill set. I’m pumped for that match up.
