ProElite Announces Acquisition of ICON Sport

EliteXC parent company ProElite held a press conference earlier today at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, Hawaii to announce the purchase of ICON Sport. The acquisition comes less than one day after ProElite also acquired King of the Cage.

The purchase marks the near one year anniversary of ProElite’s purchase of ICON Sport’s former rival, Rumble on the Rock:

“Last October … we came and invested in and bought Rumble World,” said EliteXC Live Events President, Gary Shaw. “And today we’re proud to announce that within the last hour, we just completed our deal and we bought ICON. So, we own the islands.”

ProElite’s quest to form a global MMA organization looks like it’s coming together quite well…

I agree. Right now I think they are the only viable contender to the UFC as they continue to put on very good events. I think HDNet is really going to do well in their venture as well by getting smaller fighters but doing more frequent shows eventually building them bigger and bigger.

The next year should tell us a lot in the MMA world as far as who the true competition is of the UFC.
