EliteXC veteran J.C. Pennington has been tapped to fill in as a replacement opponent for former TKO featherweight champion Mark Hominick at TKO 35 on October 3 in Montreal.

MMA on Tap confirmed the move with Pennington himself late Friday night. The 29-year-old training partner of UFC lightweight contender Rich Clementi will be replacing Tommy Lee, who suffered a broken hand during a recent training session and will be unable to compete.

“I just got the word and I’m gladly stepping up to the challenge,” Pennington told MMA on Tap. “Hominick’s stand-up is sick and he has definitely improved his ground game so I’m looking forward to an all-around great fight. I’m definitely more of a ground fighter on paper but I have greatly improved my striking. Working with Rich [Clementi] almost everyday for the past seven years that made sure that I’m skilled in every aspect of the game.”

Since losing to Javier Vazquez at a ShoXC event in October of last year, Pennington has gone on to split his last two bouts. Pennington dropped a hard-fought unanimous decision to Jarrett Becks at a King of the Cage show in May before bouncing back to score a first-round TKO of Tony Canales at LFC 2 on August 23.

Hominick returns to TKO Championship Fighting after being released by the WEC after three straight fights in the promotion. He displayed a new-found submission game at Affliction’s debut show on July 19, where he submitted Savant Young in the second round.

TKO 35 will be headlined by reigning TKO featherweight champion Hatsu Hioki returning to the promotion to defend his title for the first time against Thierry Quenneville.
