In his native country of the Netherlands, Dutch striker and highly-ranked heavyweight Alistair Overeem made quick work of fellow former K-1 star Gary Goodridge, scoring a first-round submission of the veteran in the featured attraction at Shooto Holland’s “Ultimate Glory 10” event over the weekend:
In the night’s main event, Overeem forced Goodridge to tap out from a first-round kimura.
Overeem dominated the fight from the opening bell, used knees to force the fight to the ground early, and after damaging his opponent with ground and pound, he worked from side control to secure the fight-ending submission.
Overeem will now likely focus on an upcoming rematch against Mirko Filipovic that is being rumored as taking place at K-1’s Dynamite!! show on New Year’s Eve. Overeem’s first battle against the Croatian ended in a no-contest after Overeem hit Filipovic with multiple knees to the groin that caused him to be unable to continue.
