Strikeforce officials have confirmed that Nick Diaz missed a mandatory pre-fight drug test with the California State Athletic Commission.
Diaz was reportedly in the process of submitting a sample to the CSAC but it was not done in time and Strikeforce has confirmed that The Ultimate Fighter veteran Jesse Taylor will serve as Diaz’s replacement. The bout between Hieron and Taylor will still be for the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title.
Diaz, a native of Stockton, California, tested positive for marijuana following his spectacular submission victory of PRIDE lightweight ace Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33: The Second Coming. Following his positive test, CSAC officials suspended Diaz and ruled the fight a no contest.
Hieron has had some of the worst luck in mixed martial arts over the past two years. First it was the International Fight League closing shop followed by his bout with Paul Daley at Affliction: Trilogy being cancelled with the promotion ceased operations.
Strikeforce: Carano vs. Cyborg will feature a female title fight between superstar Gina Carano and Cris “Cyborg” Santos. The card will also feature an interim lightweight title fight between Gilbert Melendez and Mitsuhiro Ishida.
