When contacted by MMA on Tap earlier today, the Costa Mesa Police Department in California had confirmed that former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson had been released on $25,000 bail overnight. Details regarding who posted bail were not available at the time.
Jackson was arrested yesterday following a high-speed chase involving Costa Mesa officers after Jackson reportedly fled the scene of an accident he was involved in. Jackson struck three more vehicles, ran through numerous red lights, and nearly struck pedestrians on the sidewalk before finally voluntarily stopping. He was taken into custody at gunpoint but without incident. He has been charged with violations of felony hit-and-run, evading police, and reckless driving.
Overnight, TMZ.com, which now has video of Rampage’s arrest posted on their website, reported that Jackson was deemed “medically unfit” for booking and that he was instead taken to a nearby hospital. However MMA Weekly has confirmed with Sgt. Chamberlain of the department that Jackson was indeed medically fit and was booked into the Orange County central jail. Five Ounces of Pain was also unable to confirm Jackson’s admittance into any hospital in the area.
Kevin Iole of Yahoo! Sports reported yesterday that UFC President Dana White apparently flew to California upon learning of the arrest and was intending on driving to the county jail to post bail for Jackson. Whether he did so or not remains unknown.
