With his resounding win over Sean Sherk last month, current UFC champion B.J. Penn moves into the top spot in our completely revamped MMA on Tap lightweight rankings. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Here are the latest MMA on Tap Top 10 fighter rankings. We will be updating these every month or whenever an adjustment is needed, like after a major event for example. The rankings break down into 7 different lists of 10, each of them by division.
If you ever want to compare these with your own or just take a look at the latest update, you can find them under the Top 10 category in our features section. The fighter’s previous ranking is listed in parenthesis after the fighter’s name.
The rankings were tabulated by Bill Reger and myself. Feel free to chime in with your own lists, thoughts, or suggestions.

Not yet. 1-2 additional wins over top competition should put him close, if not at the top spot.

Thiago Alves should be ranked higher than Diego Sanchez. Diego hasnt beat a top 10 guy since Karo back in aug 06…

“Thiago Alves should be ranked higher than Diego Sanchez. Diego hasnt beat a top 10 guy since Karo back in aug 06…”
And the guy that Thiago just beat to jump into the top 10 hasn’t beaten a top 10 welterweight since beating GSP all the way back in October of 2004. But I’m sure you have no problem ranking Hughes in the top 10, right?

Yeah Torres will soon be #1 for a long long time, i just a hunch… he’s a freak, 100%.
as i always say, this has to be hardest job in all sports, top 10 rankings… mma is so different then other sports, that’s why it’s the best

when is Gray m\Maynard going to get some love? Maynard vs. Florian… Maynard dominates ten times out of ten

Maynard’s win over Edgar made his stock rise but he needs to piece together a few more wins over top contenders before he’ll even have a chance of breaking the Top 10 at lightweight.
