MMA on Tap Top 10 - April 25, 2008

Georges St. Pierre (pictured) solidifed his spot at the top of the welterweight rankings by avenging his previous loss to Matt Serra last weekend. Meanwhile Serra’s performance caused him to tumble down the MMA on Tap Top 10. Photo property of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Here are the latest MMA on Tap Top 10 fighter rankings. We will be updating these every month or whenever an adjustment is needed, like after a major event for example. The rankings break down into 7 different lists of 10, each of them by division.

If you ever want to compare these with your own or just take a look at the latest update, you can find them under the Top 10 category in our features section. The fighter’s previous ranking is listed in parenthesis after the fighter’s name.

The rankings were tabulated by Bill Reger and myself. Feel free to chime in with your own lists, thoughts, or suggestions.

There was a lot of debate on this and to be honest, Alves ended up at #11.  If the rumored fight against Matt Hughes happens, it will go a long way to determining whether or not Alves belongs there.

Gomi is like Fedor.  They haven’t fought anybody, let alone, any top contenders in ages and they are still at the top of their respected division.  Gomi would get owned by half the guys below him.  He got subbed by Diaz on weed.  WTF?!?

i hear ya FlyinHawaiian, i stated awhile back that Gomi hasn’t beat ANYBODY in the top ranks for years and that rust showed vs Diaz.  That rust and the fact he had much less heart than Diaz!(although he did do damage to diaz, uh who doesn’t, he took a ton of shots and gassed to a guy who people lable a pot head… doesn’t sound like the make up a CHAMPION to me.)

But hey the mullet is still popular in canada so i guess time can be skewed and made to stand still for certain things and people.

Daniel - Florian is close to breaking the top 10 in our minds. While a win over a top contender would go a long way in putting him over the top, he’s probably more likely to scoot into one of the lower spots based on other fighters losing.

Gomi number #1 ??????????? Bj all the way. After he chokes out sherk you guys will change your mind. Did we forget that bj pounded Gomi. Gomi hasn’t done crap.

Like we mentioned last month, Gomi will be moving down in the rankings following Penn-Sherk in May.

honestly i think roger huerta can demolish anyone in the lightweight division besides bj penn and sherk, if he defeats florian he will fight either penn or sherk, i would love to see huerta take on penn, that would be an amazing standup war. as we all know sherk will probably stall out the fight.

also if matt hughes defeats thiago alves, who doesnt want to see him take on matt serra???
