Mir Returns Against Hardonk at UFC 74

Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir will make his return to action after a nine-month layoff at UFC 74 when he takes on Antoni Hardonk.

Mir and Hardonk were originally scheduled to fight at UFC Fight Night 9 in April but Mir was forced to pull out of the bout with a shoulder injury. Mir ended up being replaced by Justin McCully, who went on to defeat Hardonk.

Mir’s last fight was a TKO loss to Brandon Vera at UFC 65. Mir is currently attempting to come back from a 2004 motorcycle accident that left him with a broken femur and various tears and fractures in his left leg just three months after submitting Tim Sylvia to win the UFC Heavyweight Championship at UFC 48.

He returned to active competition in 2006 at UFC 57, losing by TKO to Marcio Cruz. Mir got back on track against Dan Christison at UFC 61 with a boring unanimous decision win that had Mir come into the bout completely out of shape.

Hardonk made his UFC debut at UFC 65, knocking out Sherman Pendergarst in the first round.

Maybe the 9 months off gave him some time to finally get in shape, if he comes into this bout looking like he’s been munching on donuts, then I don’t ever want to see him in the UFC again…
