Mauro Ranallo has stepped down from his post as the play-by-play commentator for PRIDE Fighting Championships. Ranallo joined the PRIDE broadcast team back in October of 2003 and he informed the promotion of his resignation just prior to his final event this past Sunday at PRIDE Bushido 13.
“I felt it was an untenable environment to work in. It was commonly known since day one that I’ve had difficulties with the American producer, Jerry Millen,” said Ranallo today.
“Apart from Millen, I loved working with all of my colleagues at PRIDE, especially the Japanese staff,” says Ranallo. “They treated me very well, but I think my future as a broadcaster lies elsewhere.”

Mauro Ranallo is my favorite MMA broadcaster. The professionalism his colour commentary brings to an event’s broadcast really makes an event enjoyable to me.
It was obvious to me that he was on the way out at PFC, as the on air jibes with Frank ‘G-R-E-G-A-R-I-O-U-S’ Trigg demonstrated the difference between an industry veteran and a pro-fighter just-turned broadcaster. I was hoping it would be Trigg that left, unfortunately this isn’t the case. Trigg’s contempt for his broadcasting partner was never well hidden, and cemented his status as a jerk, IMHO.
I look forward to watching Mauro in his new programs, and wish him all the best.
