UFC middleweight contender and grappling wizard Demian Maia will attempt to stay undefeated in welcoming WEC standout Chael Sonnen back to the UFC when the two clash at UFC 95, which will take place on February 21 in London, England.
Maia revealed that he had signed to fight Sonnen at the event in a recent statement on his official website.
The Brazilian remains undefeated thus far in his professional career and has been victorious in all of four of his UFC contests. Maia made his UFC debut at UFC 77 in October of last year where he made quick work of veteran Ryan Jensen, submitting him in the first round.
Maia has since tacked on three more submissions wins to his credit with consecutive wins over Ed Herman, Jason MacDonald and former UFC middleweight title challenger Nate Quarry in recent months.
Sonnen returns to the UFC after spending the past year competing in Zuffa-owned World Extreme Cagefighting, where he won two out of his three bouts. Sonnen fell to WEC middleweight champion Paulo Filho in a controversial fight last December, but ended up winning a lopsided decision over Filho in a rematch on November 5.
The Team Quest product dominated Bryan Baker in his lone other WEC bout. During his first stint with the UFC, Sonnen went 1-2, suffering submission losses to Renato “Babalu” Sobral and Jeremy Horn while defeating Trevor Prangley.
