Current UFC welterweight and former “Ultimate Fighter” reality show contestant Luke Cummo was arrested last week in Nassau County, New York for driving while intoxicated according to a photo gallery on Newsday.com, which features Cummo’s mugshot.
Cummo was scheduled to take on former SpiritMC welterweight champion Steve Bruno at the UFC’s “Fight for the Troops” event on December 10, but withdrew from the event earlier this month to reportedly recover from lingering injuries that left unable to fully train and to spend time with his family. Johnny Rees has since taken his spot. The UFC has yet to comment on Cummo’s arrest.
Another mixed martial artist finding himself in trouble with the law recently was PRIDE veteran and MMA pioneer Enson Inoue, who was arrested in Tokyo, Japan on October 18 on charges of possession of an illegal substance after police reportedly found up to 16.9 grams of marijuana hidden throughout Inoue’s car and clothing.
After spending the beginning of his career as one of MMA’s most successful heavyweights, Inoue hit a wall in his later years, losing five out of his last six fights before ultimately retiring following a first-round TKO loss to Tom Sauer at Superbrawl 35 in April 2004.
