Longtime mixed martial arts veteran and Team Quest co-founder Matt Lindland has fallen in his bid to earn the soon-to-be vacant Oregon House District 52 seat over Democratic challenger Suzanne VanOrman, who defeated Lindland by a sizable margin according to election returns published by The Oregonian yesterday evening.
VanOrman received 58% (8,965) of the vote during Tuesday’s election process compared to 42% (6,436) for Lindland, who ran on the Republican ticket. The former UFC middleweight contender has not yet decided whether or not he will make another run for a political office in the near future.
Lindland is currently rumored to potentially be facing Brazilian grappler Renato “Babalu” Sobral at Affliction’s “Day of Reckoning” event on January 24 in Anaheim, California in his next fight. However the organization has yet to confirm the matchup.

I’m sure that was part of it, and Sonnen being one of the top guys at Team Quest’s Gresham gym the other. Unfortunately for Lindland, his district in Oregon is chock-filled with Democrats. He did do surprisingly well for his first time running for public office though. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him give it another shot in the future.

Considering Lindland was in Florida for the WEC weigh ins, even commenting on the Filho missing weight debacle, you think Matt knew he was gonna be on the losing end?
