Frye-Taktarov Booked for YAMMA Pit Fighting

Longtime mixed martial arts veterans Don Frye and Oleg Taktarov will headline the main event at YAMMA Pit Fighting’s inaugural show, which is slated to take place at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City, NJ on April 11th.

Frye revealed the news during his weekly appearance on TAGG Radio.

“I hope (YAMMA) made the announcement because I just signed to fight Oleg Taktarov,” Frye said.

EliteXC Reveals Complete Card for “Street Certified”

Elite Xtreme Combat has announced the complete card for their upcoming “Street Certified” event, which will take place this Saturday night at the University of Miami’s BankUnited Center. The event will be airing on Showtime.

EliteXC Signs Phil Baroni to Multi-Fight Deal

One of the toughest-talking, hardest-fighting, most colorful competitors in Mixed Martial Arts, Phil “The New York Bad Ass’’ Baroni, has signed a multi-year contract with Los Angeles-based ProElite, Inc.’s Live Fight Division, EliteXC.

“You know any Jersey boy like me likes a ‘New York Bad Ass’ and Phil’s definitely as bad as they come,’’ said EliteXC Live Events President, Gary Shaw, who made the announcement Saturday. “Phil is a promoter’s dream. He’s a character but also as courageous a fighter as I’ve been around.

Pitbull to Perform at “Street Certified”

Pitbull, a hugely popular, gold-selling Miami-based hip hop superstar, will perform during EliteXC’s highly anticipated Mixed Martial Arts event in Miami, Fla., Saturday, Feb. 16, at BankUnited Center at the University of Miami.

Haynes to Replace Radach Against Serao

From a press release:

MMA veteran Josh “?Bring the Pain”? Haynes, who has competed for a dozen professional mixed martial arts organizations, including the UFC, will compete at 185-lb. against Leopoldo Serao at the International Fight League’s event at Orleans Arena in Las Vegas on Friday, February 29.

Haynes replaces popular IFL star Benji Radach, who suffered a neck injury in training and will be out of action indefinitely.

Lawler Stripped of ICON Sport Title; Baroni-Hose Set for March

ICON Sport has announced that it has stripped middleweight champion Robbie Lawler of his title after not adequately defending it enough at a press conference this past Saturday according to The Fight Network.

“I’m disappointed and upset, but I understand why this happening,” Lawler said. “In 2007, I did well when I was healthy. I accept the decision, but I promise everyone that I will return. And I will get my belt back.”

The promotion has set up a bout between Phil Baroni and Kala Kolohe Hose for the vacant title in March.

Chris Leben Signs Contract Extension With UFC

Popular UFC middleweight Chris Leben has announced that he has signed a two-year contract extension with the promotion and revealed the deal in a recent interview on the UFC’s official website:

“I just re-signed with the UFC so I’ve got another two years here, which is wonderful, and I’d like to continue to work, continue to improve my skills and fitness, continue to work and train at my gym, and obviously the goal is to eventually become world champion.

Bonnar Injured; Pulls Out of Hamill Bout

Former “Ultimate Fighter” runner-up Stephan Bonnar has been forced to pull out of his upcoming fight against Matt Hamill at UFC Fight Night 13 after tearing ligaments in his left knee according to a report from Yahoo! Sports.

“I was doing nothing out of the ordinary, just working on my (jiu-jitsu) getting ready for my fight,” a downcast Bonnar said. “I heard a pop and I thought, ‘Damn, what is this?’ I walked around on it a little, but when I got home, it was really stiff and swollen.”

Bonnar is expected to be out of action for up to six months.

MMA Weekly reports that newcomer Tim Boetsch, who is coming off of an impressive stoppage victory over David Heath at UFC 81: Breaking Point earlier this month, will replace Bonnar against Hamill.

Damacio Page Steps in for Page at WEC 32

World Extreme Cagefighting has announced that Damacio Page will replaced an injured Jesse Moreng against Scott Jorgenson at tonight’s WEC 32 event.

According to Page, he’ll be more than ready to fight despite the short notice.

“Fighting in the WEC has always been a goal for me,” recalled Page. “I’m always training so I’m not concerned about the short notice, I always come to fight”.

Day to Replace Cote Against Belcher

From The Fight Network:

The Fight Network learned late Sunday that Jason Day has agreed to a multi-fight deal with the UFC. He will make his promotional debut against Alan Belcher at UFC 83 “Serra vs. St. Pierre 2” on Saturday, April 19 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

Day (15-5) can thank Patrick Cote, the last man to defeat him, for his late invite to the UFC’s debut show in Canada. Cote was forced to withdraw from the UFC 83 card with a knee injury, a move that opened a spot for Day.

Other stories of interest: THQ, who is currently developing the latest video game for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, is expected to release a preview of the game at UFC 84 in May according to MMA Junkie. Fedor Emelianenko has penned an open letter to UFC President Dana White. Carlos Newton is currently contemplating whether or not to retire according to The Fight Network.
