Kimbo-Tank Set for October 12

Tank is his prime would kill Kimbo, Tank now = loss by submissio as I don’t think Kimbo will stand and trade

w3stcoast is an idiot. Tank Abbot may have had a better chance in his prime, but he wouldn’t be favored in that fight either. Tank is a brawler, a slugger with no concep of MMA or boxing. I give the guy alo of credit because he is tough as nails, but he doesen’t and never had the boxing talent Kimbo does. Tank doesn’t train either. He’ll probably go out swinging in the 1st round. He’s facing a superior striker and athlete. All that street tough, jailhouse stuff is crap. Look that Kimbo guy up and you’ll find out he’s an ex Tampa Bay Buc who was kicked off the team for fighting Warren Sapp. I’m not saying he’s the next champ, but he’s definetly a step up above Tank, in any category you compare them. Tank’s only chance is landing a big shot, something a former heavyweight champ couldn’t do(who ain’t much older than Tank). What I can’t figure out is why does everyone hate him so much? He’s good for the sport of MMA, one fight and he’s more popular than 90% of the fighters with any organization. That generates revenue, which in turn generates bigger better shows. Get smart.

Get smart? Are you one of those dudes in his videos with their g-unit tshirts and backwards caps? Have you watched the guys he has beat? I swear I witnessed him getting dropped by a jab in his last e-fight…

Maybe he can sell a couple hundred tickets but he’s proven absolutely nothing by beating Grandpa Mercer via choke and a couple cans broadcasted on youtube…

Arizona is correct that Kimbo is more popular than most MMA fighters, no doubt about that. However, w3stcoast is correct when he says Kimbo has proved nothing but that he can submit Grampa Mercer who doesn’t know the first thing about MMA’s to begin with. Kimbo looked fairly good against pops but that really shows nothing and against Tank if he wins that won’t show us anything either. I respect the guy, he lost weight, got in great shape, trained hard and executed well for a newbie, but put him in with even a light heavy like Chuck or Rampage right now and he’s minced meat. Randy is Mercers age but what beat the snot out of Kimbo at this stage, but if you notice he’s not stepping in against top tier MMA fighters, nor should he be, but after Tank he needs to fight some middle of the road guys to see where he really stands. All this is assuming he beats Tank. Tank only have one problem and it’s that he has no gas in the tank and that right there is the reason he’s lost most of the fights he has, no matter what anyone says Tanks is (or was in his prime) a VERY GOOD wrestler and mostly dominated his opponents on the ground. If he had cardio he’d a beat the snot out of a lot of the guys he lost to. I’m not taking anything away from those guys but fact is fact, Tank never had cardio (but someone he mustered up a lot against Oleg Taktarov to last awhile) and that’s why he loses, he gets exhausted. I don’t care how old he is, he’s probably stronger than Kimbo and he punches harder FOR SURE .. Kimbo’s street opponents seem to always get back up, Tanks victims never do. So while Kimbo certainly has the edge, one sledgehammer timed right could easily put Kimbo to sleep.

Tank Abbott is a punk. Even back in the UFC in the early years Tank would knock an opponent out and then talk smack on that fighter afterwards, showing NO respect what so ever. He wouldnt even check on the fighters safety afterwards. Tank hits hard, I’ll give him that, but he’s just trying to earn another paycheck calling out Slice. I could care less who wins, but if Tank gets his head knocked off, that’ll suit me just fine.

JJ, you do seem to be somewhat knowledgeable of what you are talking about. I agree with some of what you have to say but look at Tanks Ko’s and Slice’s: the ref stops those fights when he determines a fighter can’t continue…in those bare knuckle competitions, there is a 30 count, not a ref, so if a guy can make it to his feet then the fight continues. And as for the idiot, how can you call Kimbo a street thug and not Tank? Probably because he’s black. As for the Gannon fight, which wasn’t MMA, Gannon cheated. In a bare knuckle competition, you are basicly boxing without gloves. That means there are no knees or chokes. Why do you think none of the other fights had anyone use those tactics. In an MMA bout, who know who would win? Yeah Ray Mercer is old and by no means a measuring stick as far as MMA standards but he did help show that Kimbo has a chin. Mercer was one of the hardest punchers in the world in the nineties, something that doesen’t just disappear. I bet w3stcoast couldn’t take one shot from him, let alone get in that cage with him. I may seem to be biased towards one Kimbo, but that isn’t the case. I’m just sick of everyone attacking him becuse he’s this supposed street thug. It’s just an image, a marketing scheme. The guy has never done time. But people still seem to hate on him every chance they get. I think he’s good for the sport. The racial thing seems to be alive and well in the MMA world. Case and point: Quentin Jackson. He knocks Lidell out and all over the internet people are discrediting him, saying this guy will kick his ass or it was a fluke. His record vs. Lidell 2-0, two DOMINATING victories at that. As far as UFC, he’s had 0% exposure since then, he’s hardly even mentioned. Listen people, this is sports and stuid craplike color doesen’t matter. Get Smart.

Don’t know what to think of fightfan from Arizona’s comments about Kimbo being a better striker than Tank.  I think you ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND.

  Everyone seems to think this is going to be a brawl but after watching “bad ass” Kimbo against Ray, why would anyone assume he would stand with Tank? Not a chance!!! At least tank walks the walk. Kimbo talked about how he was goign to war with mercer and what did he do? Choked him out.

A fight with Tank depends on a few things. Will Tank show up in halfway decent shape? Will Kimbo man up and stand with Tank?  If the answer to both those questions is yes then Tank RUINS Kimbo.

After watching some interviews with Kimbo, I like the guy. He is smarter, nicer and more educated than I thought and I believe he is learning a lot from Bas but he has nowhere near the skills Tank has in terms of balance and striking. You could see it in the way Kimbo hits a bag. He does not even know who to get the most from his punches.  Tank is also a super strong wrestler. He loses so many fights because he is always on call to replace someone who can’t fight and does not have the time to train.  Even in many of his loses, he was first winning the fight until he gassed. I’m not making excuses for the man.  Tank is old now and is just fighting for the cash but he is a big freakishly strong hard hitting and yes athletic fucker. The problem these days is he’s only good for about one and a half minuted but against Kimbo that will be enough. That’s IF Kimbo backs up his words and fights Tank like a man. If Kimbo pulls the bag of MMA tricks/chokes/armbars etc out of his bag that Bas has been teaching him all bets are off, he may when the fight but he’ll look like a pussy doing it.

Tank will end Kimbo’s career before it starts.

Obviously, this guy has no clue what pugilism is if he thinks Tank Abbott is a better striker than Slice, but it’s a forum and maybe he will learn something. Form, Tank swings either fist from either foot with no regard to balance or placement. He swings for the fences, period. Slice, bobs, weaves, displays good head movement, and keepshis body square to his opponent. He fights with similar(though not as good)skills of a boxer and obviously has had some training. Advantage=Slice.

Conditioning, Tank is a known gasser, who trains by getting into drunken bar room brawls. That shows he doesen’t take the sport seriously, and has little respect for the sport as a whole. Slice, while still unproven in the MMA format, he went nearly thirty minutes straight in a Bare Knuckle competition, in which his opponent used illegal tcatics like choking and knees(not illegal in mma but in most bare knuck fights, yes they are.)Not impressive by MMa or boxing standards but he does have Bas Rutten in his corner which shows two things, 1) He realizes that if he wants to fight at this level, he’s gonna have to learn from the best, and 2)Dedication. Advantage=Slice Power, Tank, Devestating KO power, we’ve all seen that guy who disentigrated into a pretzel. Slice, Devestating KO power, we’ve all seen that guys eye hanging from the orbital socket. Advatnage Tank.
Agility/Speed, while neither seem to have great footwortk, Kimbo has good head movement and throws, compact accurate punches, while Tank is a gunner who swings for the home run constantly, don’t believe me , watch videos of them. Advantage, Slice.
Experience Tank has been in as many MMA fights as anyone out there, period; Slice has one fight versus a non MMA opponent. Advantage, Tank.
There are other categories, but these seem to be the most important. While Tank has a definite edge in experience and maybe a slight edge in power(that could be argued, but I do think Tank has a slight edge here)he just seems a little overmatched in this fight. Wrestling, the one Category that I omitted, isn’t much of a factor here because, 1) Neither are great wrestlers, I don’t care what anyone says, they haven’t shown me anythng there so that advantage would just go to who has the most left once it hits the ground. and 2)I don’t see it going to the ground, Kimbo beat Mercer by choke but, regardless of what you guys say, he is a former heavyweight boxing champ, and his hands should be more respected than Tank’s, especially since Mercer and Tank are both old. I really don’t see someone with the bare knuckle experience of Slice being afraid to throw with a brawler, that’s riht up his alley, tailored made for him, and totally hand picked for him to beat. I’m not saying he’s the next champ, no chance of that, but he’ll beat Tank’s washed up ass, and I’ll laugh if he doesen’t.

I would not wanna mess with Tank, but feel sad that his age are catching up with him (and his knees).  I wish he could find some other way to make money because he continues to get beat up by younger men.
