Today, UFC president Dana White confirmed that the upcoming bout between Mike Swick and Martin Kampmann will determine the number one contender for Georges St. Pierre’s welterweight title.
White said, “I’m excited the UFC is heading back to Texas. Our event in Houston was a great success. Wherever we go, fans know UFC delivers great fights. Mike Swick vs. Martin Kampmann could be fight of the night at UFC 103 because the winner takes on Georges St. Pierre for the welterweight title.”
Swick, a native of San Jose, California, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 14-2. Swick is currently riding a four-fight winning streak with victories over Josh Burkman, Marcus Davis, Jonathan Goulet, and Ben Saunders.
Kampmann, a native of Aarhus, Denmark, possesses a mixed martial arts record of 15-2. Kampmann holds UFC victories over notable names including Thales Leites, Drew McFedries, and Jorge Rivera. Kampmann made his welterweight debut in March defeating former WEC welterweight champion Carlos Condit.
