The International Fight League has announced that former UFC welterweight champion Carlos Newton will face off against K-1 and PRIDE veteran Renzo Gracie at 2006 World Team Championship final. The event will be held at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, on Friday, December 29 at 7 p.m. The two fighters fought once in the past at PRIDE Bushido 1 in a fight that saw Carlos Newton earn the unanimous decision victory.
Newton recently made his return to MMA against Tokimitsu Ishizawa in K-1 after a two year layoff. Newton was successful in his return knocking his opponent out at 0:22 of the first round.
Gracie much like Newton recently returned to MMA after spending over a year on the sidelines. Gracie fought Pat Miletich at IFL-Gracie vs. Miletich and won via the guillotine choke at 3:37 of the first round.
